De novo transcriptome assembly reveals three alternative oxidase encoding genes in Nymphaea alba L.

Water lilies are aquatic, ornamental and economically valuable plants classified under Nymphaea genus. alba L., white water lily, has a special focus since it is member of basal angiosperms. Alternative oxidase (AOX) proteins the terminal oxidases in electron transport chain plants. Identification alternative encoding genes for angiosperms important to increase quality phylogenetic studies. However, AOX were yet be discovered N. alba. In this study, we aimed identify by performing transcriptome analysis. Annotation 272,934 unigenes with Trinotate tool revealed 77 transcripts domains characterized known oxidases. Blast analysis these sequences three distinct (AOX1, AOX2 AOX4) After silico subcellular localization identified proteins, AOX1, predicted as mitochondrial while AOX4 plastidic protein. Template-based structural modeling results showed that all statistically similar structure models corresponding AOXs.
